Our walking group reunited after a month of no Tuesday walkabout, we walked the beach at Sandy Beach which was about the only non icy place in town. Afternoon research at the State library with a friend. We were surprised to find that all the recorder office original records are stowed here (in their big dusty old beautiful leather bound binders), and all this time I had been trying to read microfilm online since our recorders office moved to Anchorage.

7 January 2026 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Walkabout to Salvation Army to see if they were open (yes) then post office then yoga and lunch at the senior center. The senior center's freezer broke so our meal was 'shelf stable' creole with chicken by Miss Olive, not bad! The sun did shine for a bit to help the spirits of all the busy roof shovellers. We lost another roof at the Bill Ray Center, formerly classrooms for the university built in 1976 and where I had taken several classes. It had been pretty much abandoned for the past few years and was for sale.
6 January 2026 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
And now it is raining with warmer temps but still heaps of ice and flooding cos street drains are clogged. Walked to State library/archives for research, had considered driving the two blocks from my garage to their garage!

Decided to try out the roads because I had booked a morning massage, tis a challenge seeing round the berms, like driving in a tunnel. First Friday walkabout although fewer galleries are open due to our challenging weather.
1 January 2026 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Happy New Year! The snow has stopped falling and a bit of sun is peeking through the clouds...colder temps which means more ice underneath all that snow. Beautiful walk on the dock which someone had plowed, and with sounds of helicopter 'bombing' the avalanche area on Thane Road, then walk in the neighborhood where a plow had plowed a car under a berm, then home to find that the Fred Meyer gas station canopy had collapsed so no gas there and that the store itself closed due to potential issues with its roof full of snow (unfortunately you only find this local news on fb).
