December 2025 - Juneau Alaska

31 December 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Most everything closed again today as our total snow is over 80 inches...so happy to be warm and cozy with my car in covered parking, no need for me to shovel anymore! Walked to Red Dog hoping for salmon burger but they were closed so had hot dog at the Triangle instead, downtown sidewalks clear for walking...then more of a challenge to walk to Foodland for salad fixings.

30 December 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
We are setting records for snow!

A total of 63.4 inches has fallen in December at Juneau International Airport as of midnight Tuesday (one minute past 11:59 p.m. Monday), topping the previous record of 54.7 inches set in 1964. The airport received 11.2 inches of snow Monday, falling short of the daily record of 12.4 inches set in 1963, after record-setting amount were set Saturday, Sunday and two other dates earlier this month.

29 December 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Over three feet of snow so far, even our shopping mall is closed, but so nice that temps are in the double digits! So decided to take a walk although difficult since most sidewalks and streets not yet cleared. It is great to live downtown so close to amenities although the local coffee shop was closed due to snow but found the hotel restaurant open for brekkie (and me the only one there) and the grocery also open, although the ones out the road are closed (Safeway and IGA).

A neighbor has found a handyman so we shared his talents today and I had clothing hooks installed in my hallway and a long mirror in the bedroom, all items I have inherited from a woman who moved south.

18 December 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
While helping another neighbor move shelves, the maintenance man told us that one of the tenants who has lived here forever is moving out, just celebrated her 89th birthday and is not doing well. So we visited her apartment where her son and his wife were just throwing everything away so we intervened to collect so that I could take to Salvation Army. I did get her love seat sofa and several other tenants in building received other pieces of furniture. She is a famous artist known for her beadwork which is in several museums, but when we get old, no one cares.....because they were going to throw all her beadwork in the bin....now I have it all!

Morning drive to do errands before storm tomorrow....but, even though raining downtown, it was snowing heavily just a few miles north! Midday earthquake of magnitude 7 in Yukon, many here felt it but not me. Afternoon performance of the Nutcracker at the high school.

5 December 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Up early for morning massage, but not, cos car did not start! Rang the masseuse to tell her my predicament and found that they knew of a mobile auto care guy who just started his business...so rang him and he showed up half hour later. Even though message on dash stated brake problem, it really was a dead battery, he drove me to Costco for new battery, then returned to install it....cos not like the old days to just pop it in....you need to remove all the plastic covers to find the battery under everything! Walked to Salvation Army for volunteer work then visit with friends at Pioneer Home, then the big event of the year in Juneau, Gallery Walk, for three hour walkabout with continuous snacking and music!
