29 August 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then afternoon hike on the Treadwell Ditch Trail for about three hours.

28 August 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
And the sun just keeps on shining! Had thought about washing my car myself but just too much trouble to set it up here with water spigot inside garage so went to the car wash instead. Afternoon walk at Fish Creek out to the point on the Mendenhall wetlands with beautiful views of the glacier. The tadpoles that we had seen a few weeks ago are now all toads and I had to be careful where I stepped!

27 August 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Joined the Wednesday hike group on Salmon Creek trail then afternoon visit with a friend at the hospital who had fallen a few weeks ago.

26 August 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
Midday PT session then cooked some fresh king salmon

25 August 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
More overcast and cooler today for hike on East Glacier Trail. A quiet start before the cruise ships arrived and then very busy as we completed the loop, 3.8 miles and about 700 foot elevation gain.

24 August 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Sunny and warm day for hike to Dan Moller cabin at 1800' through beautiful meadows and forest.

23 August 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Gorgeous sunny warm day for our Community Family Day picnic at Amalga, free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and cookies and other sweets. I drove four lady friends and we did hike before the festivities started to the Amalga Cabin and the small beach. After dropping off three of us, two of us continued to the High Costa (Collette Costa lead singer in band) Living celebration at Sandy Beach sponsored by JAMHI (mental health institute) 40 year anniversary.

22 August 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then afternoon visit with friends at Pioneer Home and Riverview Senior Center.

21 August 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Downtown walkabout researching history of Telephone Hill. It is so frustrating in summer using the internet because all these visitors off cruise ships, over 20000 per day, suck up our bandwidth! Received text from neighbor here about three bear roaming the surrounding lawn area!

20 August 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Morning yoga then lunch at the Senior Center. Afternoon gathering at the local library to celebrate 90th birthday of Social Security put on by local AARP with cupcakes.

19 August 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
Foggy morning then sunshine for our walk on the airport dike trail along the Mendenhall River and wetlands.

18 August 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Rainy start then sunshine. Our fam trip walkabout on the Treadwell Mining Trail was cancelled but did the walk on my own anyway. The entry below was discussed on our local news today, something unique to Juneau, I wondered why the appliance clocks were off!
From our electric company, AELP!

Curious why your microwave and oven clocks are fast? The time that is displayed on plug-in devices that do not connect to the internet, like microwaves and ovens, depends on the frequency of the system to be accurate. A high system frequency will result in a clock being fast, while a low system frequency will result in a clock being slow. Typically, we monitor the difference between our local time and real time and adjust our system frequency to maintain accurate time. The device that we use to accumulate and display the error between local and real time failed at the end of the week last week, which reduced our ability to make our normal, small adjustments, and resulted in a larger offset between local time and real time than you’d normally see. These minor changes in frequency are inherent in an islanded hydropower system like Juneau and should only affect your clocks and not your power quality. We are currently working on a fix.

17 August 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska

A very foggy rainy day so am happy that I decided to not join my friends on boat ride to Tracy Arm! So many birds on the water feeding on the spawning salmon and today a marmot stopped by for a visit.

16 August 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Morning walkabout before the rains of the several open houses in Douglas and most had cookies and one gave to me a loaf of homemade bread! Afternoon installation of my new tire to replace the donut from my flat over a week ago. When they installed the donut, all the electronics went haywire, and now with the new tire, they did not reset until I had driven a few miles down the road, but no one tells you that...the Costco guy told me to take it to my mechanic (for me it was the google search)!

15 August 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then walk up the hill to water plants for friend then stop for organ concert at State Office Building then drive out to Pioneer Home for ice cream and music and visit with friends, so great to see a woman from Tenakee Springs whom I have not seen in a very long time. Another bear crossed the road in front of me again at the same place as yesterday, and he did not even use the crosswalk.

14 August 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Morning yoga then lunch with friends at Hangar on the Wharf. A bear crossed the road in front of me this morning, maybe looking for breakfast at the Pioneer Home.

13 August 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
The glacial lake outburst flood occurred at 715am 16.6 feet with flow at over 47000 cubic feet per second breaking all previous records but the barriers that were installed did make a difference. I could not believe the headlines across the world stating that the city of Juneau was flooded and all 32000 people had to be evacuated...truth being that homes were built on a flood plain and subject to the change in the river flow. I was camped there in 2011 for the first really big one and was stuck at the campground for a bit.

12 August 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
The sun has returned as we await the flooding of the Mendenhall River.

11 August 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Morning massage and chiro adjustment, a very rainy day all day.

10 August 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at the visitor kiosk where quite a bit is happening with the commissioning of the USCG Storis, heaps of dignitaries getting out of big black suvs!

9 August 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
More rain and fog, a day of running errands.

8 August 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Rains have returned! Happy Birthday to our father.

7 August 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Clouds rolling in for predicted rain. The current tenant is moving out of the apartment that I plan to rent so visited for my own assessment. I had seen this apartment ten years ago and was offered it but at that time I was not ready to settle down and wanted to continue my extensive travel. The man that has lived there for these past ten years is now moving to Pioneer Home so how timely that it is available for me again, top floor two bedroom backside quiet corner unit facing trees and the governors mansion in a senior living community.

6 August 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Morning hike in the sunshine on Salmon Creek trail.

5 August 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
Great turnout for the hike that I called on nordic trail at Eaglecrest Ski area then a visit to Fish Creek to view what seemed like hundreds of tadpoles, some with legs on land as toadlets soon to be toads! Then found I had low tire pressure in my brand new front left tire so off to Costco to have it checked and found damaged tire, probably from pothole on road to ski area...now driving with a donut which throws off all the electronics.

4 August 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Morning visit to Honda dealer for oil change and checkup, all planned for my trip scheduled south on ferry in September, but now cancelled because I have found a place to live!

3 August 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Rains have returned...

2 August 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Morning hike on the Treadwell Mine Trail then bbq celebration at Sandy Beach, a continuation of the activities from yesterday for completion of Treadwell Ditch Trail but in the sunshine today.

1 August 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then midday ribbon cutting for completion after thirty years of the over thirteen mile Treadwell Ditch Trail in the pouring down rain...then the sun returned for afternoon art walkabout for First Friday.
