Heavy rain today and no ATT telephone service due to damage to subsea cable system! Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then a looksee at potential rental... but a major renovation still in process in an older home. Afternoon happy hour at the Pioneer Home which they do on last Friday of the month.

Morning yoga and lunch at the senior center then afternoon walkabout before gathering at Spice Cafe for presentation of the proposed new Auk Landing/cruise ship dock to be built by Huna Totem, great Indian food!

Warmer weather with heaps of rain!

21 February 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at the Salvation Army then afternoon walkabout downtown. A friend had lived here in the 1960s (he is now 92) and wanted me to take photos of his former home, very much changed, but he was very happy to have the photos, even though I had to climb 182 steps up the stairs to get there, which he told me he had done daily while living there! My morning once a week $5 mocha is now $5.51!

20 February 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Genealogy research for a friend. The inflamed gums have gotten a bit better so am hoping they improve with time although I may now need a root canal, or two.

19 February 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Morning yoga and lunch at the senior center then decided to just show up at the dentist because the pain from these temp crowns was not getting better. They had rung me last Thursday to say the permanent crowns had arrived but then they were closed for four days and my appointment was not for another two weeks. So today they installed the permanent crowns and am hoping the pain goes away.

18 February 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
Morning massage and adjustment then walk at Sandy Beach/Treadwell Mine trail with the girls. Evening slide show of friend's travels in Tanzania at local theatre.

17 February 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Walkabout on Basin Road and the flume.

16 February 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Walkabout at Kingfisher Pond and catching up with friends via phone.

15 February 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Walkabout on the seawalk then afternoon viewing of the Oscar nominee shorts at local Goldtown theatre, five live action and five animation, now need to see the five documentaries.

14 February 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Happy Valentines Day!!! We had planned to meet our friend Judy for the 3pm Friday happy hour at Riverview senior center but found that for this special day that have a 4pm dinner with crab appetizer, entree of either lamb or black cod, and dessert, just wonderful, and with other family members!

13 February 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Wonderful walk on the wetlands trail. Someone has placed roses in the shape of a heart in the fence at the end of the trail. Returned home to find that the glacier did calve today!

12 February 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Yoga and lunch at the senior center then another lovely afternoon walk on the Mendenhall Lake to the frozen waterfall and almost to the glacier then on Steep Creek trail for 'snow crystal' tasting (hoarfrost), sticking our face in the fluff!

11 February 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
Morning walk with the ladies on the Mendenhall Wetlands trail where we heard and saw the Canada geese, an estimated five to six hundred spend their winter here. Then another visit to the dentist to alleviate pain from poorly installed temporary crowns.

10 February 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Another clear cold day for walkabout across the Mendenhall Lake to the frozen waterfall and almost to the glacier face (not much left, soon it will only be a hanging glacier) then on Steep Creek trail through the beautiful forest of trees full of snow and crystals! The hiking group had done this on Saturday with skis (I did not join them) and their photos were wonderful. I remember my Christmas card when I first moved here of me on skis at the face of the glacier after having skiied across the frozen lake.

9 February 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Midday visit to library then walk on the boardwalk along the cruise ship docks, still a bit icy so happy to have my nexgrip boots with spikes. Attended the Local Composers Concert at Northern Lights Church with friends then to suss out potential apartment rental downtown, very nice one but not for me.

8 February 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Visited a few open houses then walk on the wildlife refuge wetlands trail.

7 February 2025 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army then ice cream social with piano music by Tom at the Pioneer Home. Afternoon walkabout downtown for Gallery Walk. One very impressive display was of the Armature Framed Method for handmade masks by Charles Buggs, now deceased, presented by his niece.

6 February 2025 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Enjoyed the second annual Jazz Fest free brown bag concert at noon after morning yoga. This included a wonderful performance by Zuill Bailey considered one of the premiere cellists in the world and the Kyle Athayde Dance Party.  The Juneau Jazz and Classics was founded by Linda Rosenthal in late 1980's and I was part of the beginnings (not as musician but on the board!). This has been an annual event in the spring but has expanded with a jazz fest in February.

5 February 2025 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
My car's three year warranty ends soon as I approach 36000 miles so took it to Honda dealer for a multipoint checkup! Then yoga and lunch at the senior center, then shopping at Mustard Seed thrift store where I found my favorite Gevalia vintage coffee pot and great chat with friends. Another clear cold day.

4 February 2025 Tuesday - Juneau Alaska
The woman who owned and lived in this apartment previous to me had an exercise machine that they stowed in storage so I asked if I could use it. It is called Scoop, a lateral trainer, a bit different.

3 February 2025 Monday - Juneau Alaska
Wonderful massage and chiro session this morning but then cancelled out with a visit to the dentist! It has been one week since I had the double crown prep with temporaries installed but the pain has continued so I rang the dentist and visited them in the afternoon. They had to remove the excess cement around the base of the crown which caused the pain and swelling of the gums (and had been installed by a newbie in the office...just my luck).

2 February 2025 Sunday - Juneau Alaska
Cold and clear and windy day so stayed in for phone calls and chores then walkabout to Kingfisher Pond.

1 February 2025 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Another cold and clear day! Afternoon meeting at the library with the folks who have managed the Last Chance Mining museum for thirty years and in need for volunteers for the summer. It has been a big challenge to get anyone to volunteer not just for the museum but for the visitor centers during the summer, no younger folks have the same interest that we did many years ago.
