Walkabout downtown with no cruise ships this morning...fewer now into October. I had a Nespresso Original in Florida that I had given to my sister so decided to buy on sale a Nespresso Vertuo which uses different brewing method, quite good!

Morning volunteer work at Salvation Army sorting the clothes donated to me by a friend last week. One heater is broken in the apartment so electrician worked on that in afternoon.

Gorgeous sunny day for views of the new snow on the mountains! Continued research on my friend's historical home with visits to the city planner and assessor and library. Fetched donation stuff from a friend in Douglas to take to Salvation Army tomorrow. Then walkabout at the glacier for more views and great chat with a young forest service worker there who had been with the Peace Corps in Madagascar in 2016 and then she continued to travel the world, quite fun!

Morning yoga then to the post office to finally fetch my new duvet ordered over a month ago...it appears that sometimes mail sorting in Seattle is not the best and packages get on the barge to Anchorage first...the challenges of the post when living in the 'bush'!

Joined Saturday hike group on the Gastineau Meadows Trail in the pouring rain to enjoy the Parks and Recreation CLUE game to find who did what where by the process of elimination...beautiful autumn colors! Afternoon research on another Juneau pioneer.

Morning fog then cloud then sunshine! Wandered the Mendenhall Mall monthly market and met the woman who had custom made my braided rug for my van fifteen years ago, great time chatting. Hike on the Brotherhood bridge trail along the Mendenhall River where they are still doing cleanup work from the flood last month. They are also building a new footbridge over the Montana Creek (not damaged by flood, just old). Warning light today on car, key fob battery low, happy that this did not happen in middle of nowhere!

Friday the thirteenth, birthday of our IBM friend now deceased. Morning volunteer work at the Salvation Army then great chat with my friend Michelle. Fetched my new flannel sheets from the post office, washed them, and had a great evening sleep, now waiting for my new duvet/quilt/comforter.

Gorgeous day for our hike on the Dike Trail through the wetlands refuge, swans migrate through here this time of year but we did not see any.

Hike on the Flume Trail then on the closed Christopher Trail down to Cope Park along Gold Creek. I have been wanting to see the conditions of the erosion on the trail which really is not too bad since I was wearing my wellies! Stop at Jerry's for both some fresh and smoked salmon.

Morning volunteer work at 'Sally Ann's' and I had several boxes in my car of donations from the woman who works at my storage place.

Early morning visit to Honda dealer for emission warranty work but found that even with a booking I made three weeks ago, they may not get to my car today due to shortage of staff...so decided to give it a miss for today and rebook for later...then had a much needed pedicure instead! Visit with my friends at the Pioneer Home.

Morning yoga at the senior center then opted for the lunch of baked chicken, au gratin potatoes and broccoli and great chat with a woman I had known for years but we had never really had extended conversation...and found that her now deceased brother (killed by avalanche in Wyoming) had gone to same high school as I had with one year difference in graduation year, but I do not remember him. Also spent time doing her genealogy.

Morning walk with the ladies on the DZ and Switzer and Marriott trails then afternoon research looking for and finding a cookbook written in 1974 by local Filipino chef for a friend who has since moved to Washington. My last goodbye for this year to my friend Mary Kay from the House of Wickersham before she returns to Texas for the winter.

Looks like a rainy week ahead...but just clouds this morning for walk on the Dike Trail along the Mendenhall River and the Wetlands State Game Refuge. Visited Costco for boxes to fill with the apartment owner's closet stuff! This is more of a housesit for which I pay rent!
