When I first arrived here, I enjoyed the rhubarb, and now really enjoying the salmonberries, soon it will be wild blueberries!

The sun has returned after many days of rain! Morning walk at Treadwell/Sandy Beach then meeting a woman who was my roommate here back in 1983! She and I have seen each other a few times around town over the years but never took the time to meet and catch up!

Morning workout at the gym then visit to my storage unit where I was able to get help in loading the empty four drawer file cabinet into the truck. It is more and more difficult to get rid of stuff because no one wants anything anymore but am hoping that I can find a home for the file cabinet, and if not, I can pay five bucks to local metal recycle folks.

Morning workout at the gym then drive to Brotherhood Bridge to view the fireweed blooms in front of the Mendenhall Glacier. The Alaska State Ferry workers have gone on strike, so good thing that I do not have my van in Juneau!

Joined the Parks and Rec group for hike on Salmon Creek trail in the rain and happy to see my friend visiting from my mother's neighborhood in Florida.  The carpet cleaners are demolding the crawl space today with bleach so I had to be gone for the day anyway.

Morning time with physical therapist then catching up with friend Sally for coffee, which I do quite a bit of while in Juneau with friends who spend the winter travelling and the summer in Juneau, like me.

Morning time with physical therapist and then afternoon of gum scaling/root planing of the other side of my mouth....and invested in an electric toothbrush which is a big adjustment for me.

More time at my storage unit, cannot believe the amount of paper that I have saved...scratch pads, paper tablets, envelopes from travels and conferences that I attended.
Frustrations of food shopping (organic veggies and fruits) in Juneau are that the shelves are often bare....am finding that there are more inns, lodges, charter boats etc that cater to tourists are stocking up!

Rains are predicted for next week so decided to hike up Mt Roberts trail, one that I did quite often in years past because the trailhead was so near to my former home. It is five miles round trip up 1800 feet to the tram that was built in 1996. I then visited the Last Chance Mining Museum.

More heat and smoke.....morning walk to Nugget Falls at the Mendenhall Glacier before the tourists arrive then afternoon drive to my 19 mile housesit to fetch the remainder of my stuff.

Air quality index has reached unhealthy red level of 151! Working the kiosk this morning after moving from housesit at 19 mile to Douglas.

The Saturday group hike is at Eaglecrest Ski Area, hike is up a gravel road in the heat and smoke, and it is about thirty miles from where I am now housesitting (twenty miles to town then ten miles back north on Douglas Island, although they have proposed a second crossing which would make it much closer)....so may opt for an alternate hike on the river at the boys scout camp instead, beautiful setting.

Anchorage broke temperature records at 90 degrees and still hot and smoky here!
Met the plumber at my Douglas housesit to install the hot water heater but then he was over one hour late and brought the wrong size water heater so he had to return to his office fifteen miles away and return with one of the correct size (I did not stay to see if this happened). I hope to move back this weekend because my friend Marcia of 19 mile housesit returns on Wednesday!
Grilled halibut for lunch at the Sandbar then vanilla milkshake at the Hot Bite Auke Bay, my annual fix at these two places!

Happy Fourth of July! Ninth day of sunshine and heat in Juneau. Really enjoyed the longer than usual Fourth of July parade whose theme was Heartbeat of Juneau.

Morning dental appointment for half mouth gum scaling, ouch! Then, a much needed haircut with Mindy.

Morning eye checkup appointment and she dilated my eyes so it was difficult to see in all this sunshine....then PT with Justin. I am still staying out the road so was happy for the quiet, the only fireworks allowed were those sponsored by the city on the water downtown. All fireworks are banned due to heat and dry and no rain, even our water supply is low.
