Rain has been predicted for the past few days but still no rain....just heavy overcast and cooler. Today's hike is Perseverance Trail to Granite Basin....and it did rain on us!

After a week full of sunshine, Juneau hit record high temperatures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (13,14,15 May 2016).

Friday's high was 79 degrees. "Previously the record was 75 set back in 1942.", said Meteorologist Geri Swanson with the National Weather Service in Juneau.

Saturday saw a high reaching 77. "Another record! 1942 also saw that previous record of 74.", said Swanson.

Sunday's record hi of 75 beat the record in 1993 of 73 degrees.

Swanson says rain is in the forecast, along with cooler temps, throughout the week but the good weather is expected to return as we approach the weekend. Monday's high is expected to be in the upper 50's.

Another gorgeous sunny day for gold panning in Gold Creek.....found a few flecks that I have saved in a small bottle! Walked the flume back along Gold Creek which took longer because I kept stopping to talk with friends that I have not seen since last summer.

We heard that a pedestrian had been struck by a 20 year old in an SUV near Foodland shopping center...we have since found that the pedestrian was Joe Rafferty, husband of a fellow hiker Carrol, and that he died in Seattle later on Friday.

Our first really sunny day since I arrived almost two weeks ago! And we had a morning whale watch and saw several humpbacks and heaps of Steller sea lions.....then spent the afternoon moving hotel rooms.....I have had no sleep the past several nights because the rooms near me are full of crying babies between about 10pm and 2am!

Mexican lunch with friends at el Sombrero then spent afternoon on my genealogy project. I was able to find telephone number of another second cousin and chat with him and also solve a puzzle! It appears that my mother's mother's sister married a man that had been married previously and had had four children. I found that one of those children (Henry) married my mother's father's sister!

A very wet day to do "fam" (familiarization) trip on canoe on Mendenhall Lake at the glacier.....as volunteers in tourism, we get free trips so that we may better know what the vendor has to offer....but we still had fun and even saw mountain goats in addition to the glacier and waterfalls!

It has been raining since I arrived last Thursday....I am ready for the sunshine!
Worked at my volunteer job at the kiosk this morning then a workout at the gym. The first cruise ship arrived yesterday and the second one today, the Volendam. Many folks on this ship have been on for several months visiting various ports in Asia.
