30 April 2015 Thursday Juneau Alaska
Walk in sunshine on the flume with sightings of bear on the hillside.
28 April 2015 Tuesday Juneau Alaska
Only one more week until the first cruise ship arrives on 4 May.....the town is getting ready for the opening up of the shops with big container trucks unloading their wares and heaps of construction going on everywhere! Record rainfall in April.
25 April 2015 Saturday - gorgeous sunny day in Juneau!
19-22 April 2015 - visit to Cordova Alaska for a few days where nearly five million shorebirds rest and refuel on the tidal flats of Copper River delta
22 April 2015 Wednesday - Cordova Alaska
Woke up to flat tire on my hire car.....1999 Dodge Durango with 150000 miles on it....typical broken down Alaskan hire car! Got that fixed and explored a bit more before my return flight to Juneau. Quite an ordeal at the Cordova airport....only about a half dozen of us boarding the plane at this very tiny airport but TSA decided that I was carrying a bomb and took apart both of my carryon bags and placed those little white squares everywhere to ensure that there were no explosives!
21 April 2015 Tuesday - Cordova Alaska
Beautiful crystal clear morning but when I fetched my hire car at noon, it was snowing then raining then hail......there were a few clear moments for my walk at Sheridan Glacier and along the boardwalk at Alaganik Slough....then at mile 33, I got stuck in the snow....but managed to get into 4wd and turnaround....I really wanted to make it to the broken bridge at mile 36.....and no way to make it to the Million Dollar Bridge at mile 49.
20 April 2015 Monday - Cordova Alaska
Mixed weather today.....so walked the harbor and enjoyed the birds then hiked up the ski hill mountain for a bit of a cardio workout.....then great enchilada at Baja Taco cafe.
19 April 2015 Sunday - Cordova Alaska
Mid morning flight to Cordova with stop enroute in Yakutat. Staying at the Reluctant Fisherman Inn top floor end of hall room right on the water with small balcony......wonderful! Walkabout in town to find most shops and museums closed on Sunday and Monday....still winter hours until mid May!
Cordova has about 2500 people and has no road out like Juneau....it is at the mouth of the Copper River and it was built as the terminus of the railroad to haul ore out of the Kennicott mine during early 1900's.
11 April 2015 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Cold again and new snow on the mountains at very low elevation! Spent all morning in training with the volunteers of the Juneau Convention and Visitors Bureau (JCVB), getting ready for the arrival of the tourists in May! All the vendors (old and new) were at the mall talking about their tours.
4 April 2015 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Lunar eclipse starting as I walked to the gym early this morning and watched it from the windows during my workout.....good view of total eclipse! Warm enough to wash my van!
1 April 2015 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Happy April Fools Day! A wet hike on West Glacier trail.
