12 November 2013 Tuesday - Rocky Springs MS to Anniston AL
Woke up to news that arctic front is due in with high winds and temps in teens.....so decided that I did not need to drive the 400 miles north to Nashville, even though the Natchez Trace Parkway is a beautiful drive! Turned right at Jackson MS and headed east on I20....not fun to be on interstate with high winds and heaps of trucks.

11 November 2013 Monday - Natchez MS to .....
Happy Veterans Day....drove the Natchez Trace Parkway north, with many stops enroute for historical sites. Free camping at Rocky Springs with long walk on Natchez trail to the old townsite of Rocky Springs.

8 November 2013 Friday - Houston TX
Visiting my cousin in Houston for a few days....have not seen her for over 25 years! I am the oldest of the cousins and she is the second to youngest at 50! She and I pampered ourselves with pedicures and facials then evening seafood at the Downtown Aquarium Restaurant....quite fun to watch all the fish!

7 November 2013 Thursday - San Felipe TX
Overnight at Stephen Fuller Austin State Park, home of Texas' first colony on Brazos River...unfortunately all this rain has closed the trails so no hiking allowed.

5 November 2013 Tuesday - San Antonio to Smithville TX
On the road again heading to Houston. I had wanted to camp at Palmetto State Park but the heavy rains last week closed the park due to flooding....visited Lockhart State Park but very small on golf course and sites are too close together....then Bastrop State Park which was badly destroyed by fire in 2011 so overnighted at Buescher State Park on lovely lake.

4 November 2013 Monday - San Antonio TX
A rainy overcast day so a good day to just catch up on stuff while Toni is at work....and it is snowing in Juneau!

3 November 2013 Sunday - San Antonio TX
I am now visiting with Toni from Juneau who lives here in San Antonio....I had visited her when she was working in Sofia Bulgaria in the late 1990's (when I was then living in Montpellier France). Enjoyed Sunday morning farmers market at the Quarry Market.

2 November 2013 Saturday - San Antonio TX
Rode the local VIA bus #3 to downtown SanAnton to visit the Alamo which I last saw as a child with my family many many years ago! Walked along the river walk and visited the el mercado which had outdoor Saturday market and great local music....did not realize that I was enjoying the celebration of the Dia de los Muertos!

1 November 2013 Friday - San Antonio Texas
Beautiful crescent moon rising this very clear and cold morning at Guadelupe River State Park...now to the very busy city of San Antonio...first stop Trader Joes....then across the street to Alamo Quarry Market (former cement plant).....such a change from the desolate remote plains! Overnight with Susan and David, she and I attended the same high school in Virginia and have not seen each other since! Great dinner at the Granary!
