Record breaking heat wave again! And again we are in the news:
Film crew in Juneau for American Express Outfitters
There's a catalog and photo shoot for American Eagles Outfitters going on in Juneau.
An advance team from Piksik, an Alaskan film services production company based in Anchorage, arrived last week.
The active photography will take place from today through Friday, according to Greg Chaney, the Lands and Resources Manager for the City and Borough of Juneau.
Chaney's department is serving as the primary point of contact for the film crew.
He says CBJ locations that will be used include the Auke Lake Boat Launch area, the North Douglas Launch Ramp, the Upper Eaglecrest ski area and downtown streets.
Chaney says the crew will also be working at Mendenhall Lake, Nugget Falls and several private homes.
Chaney's office also served as the primary point of contact for last year's production of two episodes of Top Chef and the final episode of Amazing Race filmed here this July 2.

The rains have returned for our hike up Perseverance Trail to Granite Basin.....plus the clouds are so low that you cannot see the mountains! But the rains did not ruin our Main Street Block Party barbeque and potluck! It was quite fun to see the gathering of folks from my old neighborhood where there are now quite a few new faces....and many younger ones with children!
19 July 2013 Friday - Juneau Alaska
Besides my volunteering with tourism and as hike leader, I have just started volunteer work at the historical library. I have benefited so much from other peoples' work over the years, that I decided to contribute a bit. I am reading the Juneau newspapers from 1938 (on microfilm) and indexing the obituaries...and of course, sometimes I do get distracted with other local stories or the price of veggies at the market!
17 July 2013 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
Gave the organized hike a miss this week (another mountain) and hiked at Eagle Beach on a very warm and sunny day (again....).
13 July 2013 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
Our Saturday hike is to Salmon Creek dam/reservoir!
10 July 2013 Wednesday - Juneau Alaska
I was the hike leader for the Wednesday hike this week and our friend Jay Crondahl offered to lead us on the Nelson Watershed trail which many of us had done a very long time ago....it required a bit of bushwacking with leather gloves but our arrival in the beautiful meadow was well worth it (and the forecast was for rain but the sun was shining). But the not so best part was climbing up a very steep trail to meet the Mt Roberts trail.....but we did it!
6 July 2013 Saturday - Juneau Alaska
The Saturday hike was Sheep Creek which starts as a very steep climb for the first 800 feet then beautiful walk in valley along Sheep Creek. We then continued up and up and up above the trees to the powerline for lunch...quite a workout for all of us.....and even more of a workout, especially on the knees, on the descent!
4 July 2013 Thursday - Juneau Alaska
Happy Fourth of July.....a very overcast day....enjoyed watching the parades in both Juneau and Douglas (about a two mile walk over the bridge from Juneau to Douglas).
1 July 2013 Monday - Juneau Alaska
The rains have returned after almost three weeks of record sunshine...unfortunately the rains have arrived for the Fourth of July week!
Attended great presentation at the Alaska State Historical Library given by Jean Morgan Meaux on her new book 'In Pursuit of Alaska: An Anthology of Travelers Tales, 1879-1909'.
