Morning walk at Taylor Lake Park where we saw heaps of birds then visit to Seabird Sanctuary where we learned that the parrots we had seen today at Taylor are really parakeets!

Wonderful morning walk at Wall Springs (Pinellas County) Park then coffee at Kahwa.
Purchased by Charles F Wall from the State of Florida in
1876, Wall Springs on Boggy Bayou soon became a popular recreation destination
by the end of the century. By 1926 Wall Springs had become known as a
nationally known health destination because of the reputed benefits of its
colorless, tasteless and odorless alkaline waters. The Orange Belt Railway
(only lasted one year 1888-1889 then purchased by Henry Plant and added to the
Atlantic Coast Line Railroad) erected a depot nearby enabling wealthy
vacationers throughout the nation direct access. The Wall family sold the
spring to Harry W Davis in 1927 who then sold it to the Cullen family in 1949.
The Cullen family closed the spring to the public in 1966 due to high insurance
premiums and liability concerns. Pinellas began acquiring the Wall Springs
property in 1988, and was open to the public in 2005.

Morning drive to suss out the over 300 acre solar farm, so ugly on what was once beautiful rolling green hills! And then found, out in the middle of nowhere, the Snowcat Ridge snow playground and the Tree Toppers zipline and the Scream a Heddon Horror Park...all you need for an adrenaline fix in one spot! Then afternoon visit to Pioneer Historical Museum.
Very heavy fog until noon! Most businesses are closed on Sunday and Monday so decided to return today via Hardy Trail. Had Blue Bell Happy Tracks ice cream cone at TJ's then great chat with owner of Out of Our Hands Art Gallery(wonderful gallery of local artists). She and her husband had moved here to get away from hustle and bustle of Miami to enjoy the quiet cow pastures and rolling hills. Unfortunately, the citrus canker destroyed the orange industry and Tampa Electric (TECO) has bought all the land to build a solar farm despite backlash from residents. The growth of new homes in this area is phenomenal and no roads to handle the traffic.
The Edwinola is a beautiful old building in town that was built as a hotel in 1912 and I thought that it still was, then found that it is a retirement home, which I have seen in several other Florida towns...old hotels converted to retirement homes!
13 December 2021 Monday - Dade City Florida
Hiked the trails of Colt Creek State Park and visited downtown Zephyrhills, home to the famous bottled spring water of Florida. The name derives from its gentle breezes (zephyrs) and rolling hills. Since I was only six miles from Hillsborough River State Park and I have a state park pass, decided to visit there also, a much bigger park and usually busier since it is so close to Tampa, but quiet today. Walked the trails along the Hillsborough River enjoying the area of the rapids and crossed the suspension bridge.
12 December 2021 Sunday - Dade City Florida
Another very foggy morning!
For those who miss the snow of the north, there is an alpine snow park here called Snowcat Ridge, the only one of its kind in Florida, and only for $40 per day!
Hiked the trails of Withlacoochee River (Pasco County) Park, tucked away down some back country roads. The return route passed by what I thought was hill then realized that it was the landfill by the smell, with a great old cemetery across the road.
Afternoon four mile walk to downtown and back, along Hardy Trail, and visit to Bravo Supermarket, very Mexican (21% of population hispanic).
11 December 2021 Saturday - San Antonio Florida
Walkabout with about twenty Volksport folks through the small town of San Antonio (founded in 1881 by Edmund F Dunne) and Saint Leo University/Abbey/Monastery on Lake Jovita, over six miles...then delicious lunch at the Tampa Bay Golf Club.
10 December 2021 Friday - Largo to Dade City Florida (75 miles)
North on route 19 then east on 52 (very foggy), heaps of construction for widening of highway for building of many new homes and shopping malls, too much growth! Stopped at Anderson (Pinellas County) Park for walkabout on Lake Tarpon then walk on the Hardy Trail to downtown to roam the Dade City antique/gift shops and bookstore. Evening Christmas parade through downtown but gave it a miss.

Morning walkabout then afternoon DNA class via zoom.
8 December 2021 Wednesday - Largo Florida
Fetched a rental car for one month to make it easier to take mum out for Christmas activities. Morning walk at Boca Ciega Millenium Park and afternoon walk at Heritage Village park. Heavy rainstorm in the evening.
7 December 2021 Tuesday - Largo Florida
Morning walk at Taylor Park in the fog, heaps of birds singing but could not see them! Visit with mum at ALF and meet with the new nursing staff.
6 December 2021 Monday - Largo Florida
Morning walk then genealogy research.
5 December 2021 Sunday - Largo Florida
Morning walkabout then relaxing at the pool, interrupted by heaps of noise from the Toys for Tots motorcycle run. Afternoon walk with the Sandpipers for tour of holiday lights at St Pete Pier with first a stop at the Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum.

Morning walk to visit neighbor garage sale then to Seminole Historical Museum where I have tried for past few weeks to visit when they are open on Thursday but staff was late in arriving so did not wait for them then, decided to arrive later today and they were there.
1 December 2021 Wednesday - Largo Florida
Morning walk at Taylor Park then visit with mum. Afternoon walk at Largo Nature Park and saw heaps of critters, especially birds. We saw the usual that you see on walks in Florida but also saw peregrine falcon and roseate spoonbill and armadillo! Then visit to Largo Central Park to view the Christmas lights.
