June 2017 - Juneau Alaska and BC Canada

I had originally booked on the ferry departing Juneau 2 July and arriving Prince Rupert 3 July but the State of Alaska cannot balance their budget so a shutdown of the State government may occur on 1 July which means no ferries.....so changed my booking to 25 June and hope that there is no shutdown....this has been threatened for the past three years!

Canada Dollar is 75 cents on US dollar....and petrol is about $1.069 per litre, although it was $1.499 on the Icefields Parkway!

30 June 2017 Friday - Fort Fraser to McBride (214 miles)
Most BC Parks lock the gates from 11pm until 7am....which means I am locked in! But Jed at Beaumont Park just hooked the padlock over the chain and did not lock it so that I could depart at 5am! Most provincial parks are full for the long weekend so drove to McBride and stayed at an RV park where I have stayed before, and so that I could take a shower and have wifi.....but wifi was lousy! And the mosquitoes were ferocious!

29 June 2017 Thursday - Terrace to Fort Fraser (242 miles)
Overcast with just a few sprinkles today. I had hoped to see the kermode bear, a rare white species of the black bear found in this area, but I did not! I had heard that he was hanging out at Cedarvale but then someone else told me that he had been moved so that he would not get hit by a vehicle on the road. Camped at Beaumont Provincial Park. I have been lucky so far to get my favorite sites at these parks where I have stayed before.

28 June 2017 Wednesday - Prince Rupert to Terrace BC Canada (92 miles)
Gorgeous drive along the Skeena River...morning hike at Exchamsiks....sited fox and porcupine! Camped east of Terrace at Kleanza Creek Provincial Park, one of my favorites, because I am right on the creek and listen to the sound of the water all night!

27 June 2017 Tuesday - Prince Rupert BC Canada
Early morning drive back to PR to get Tim Hortons mocha and money at the bank and veggies/fruit at Safeway. Afternoon walk at the harbor of Port Edward. Will depart early tomorrow and drive to Kleanza Creek park which has nice hike up a hill.

26 June 2017 Monday - Prince Rupert BC Canada
Noon to 330pm stop in Ketchikan to catch up on internet at the hotel across from ferry terminal then walk to Safeway mall and art gallery.
Late evening arrival into Prince Rupert then drove the ten miles to Port Edward campsite at Kinnikinnick in the dark! I wanted to plug in a few days to test everything out cos most of the next few days will have nothing.....and no internet!
